Mentorship Program

We're excited to introduce a brand-new Mentorship Program - designed to connect experienced professionals with emerging leaders in state government affairs. Whether you're ready to share your expertise or seeking guidance, this program offers a powerful opportunity to grow, learn, and make lasting connections.
Mentor Opportunities
We're currently inviting seasoned professionals to step forward as mentors. This is your chance to pay forward your experience - whether it's helping someone launch their career or guiding them through a pivotal transition.

As a mentor in this program, you will:
- Be featured in our mentor directory, so mentees can explore your background.
- Have the flexibility to define your availability, communication style, and areas of focus.
- Play a pivotal role in fostering the next generation of state government advocacy leaders.

If you're ready to give back by sharing your knowledge and shaping emerging talent, this is your chance!

Who Is This For?
Any SGAC member looking to grow professionally within the state government affairs space can take advantage of the Mentorship Program - no application required. Whether you're new to the field, navigating a career transition, or simply looking for guidance in a specific area, this program is here to support your growth.
How It Works
All members have open access to our mentor directory through the Members-Only Portal. There is no formal sign-up process for mentees - just login, browse the mentor profiles, and take the next step that works best for you.

As a mentee you can:
- Explore the mentor directory to find professionals whose background, expertise, or leadership style aligns with your goals.
- Reach out directly to any mentor who feels like a good fit. You'll find their preferred contact method and availability details within their profile.
- Set your own pace by coordinating with your mentor on meeting frequency, format (Zoom, phone call, coffee chat), and topics of focus.

Not sure who to contact? We're happy to help match you with a mentor based on your career interests and goals - just reach out to us!
What You'll Gain
- Guidance from experienced professionals who've been in your shoes
- Greater clarity on career direction, skill-building, and leadership development
- An expanded professional network in the state government affairs space
- A safe space to ask questions, explore ideas, and build confidence
Tips for a Great Mentorship Experience
- Take initiative: The first step starts with you - reach out, introduce yourself, and express what you hope to gain.
- Be clear: Share your goals or what you're hoping to work on together.
- Come prepared: Bring thoughtful questions or updates to each meeting.
- Stay open: Embrace constructive feedback and different perspectives.
- Engage in person: Take advantage of opportunities to connect with your mentor at SGAC's many events held throughout the year across the country. These in person interactions can deepen your connection and spark even more meaningful conversations.
